NFASL Season III AFC Preview

The NFASL is entering it's Third season on Madden 21, and the AFC now find themselves two more banners behind in the Hall of Champions. For the 2nd straight year it was a AFC North representative falling in the biggest game as the Baltimore Ravens could not contend with the Leagues MVP, and Super Bowl XXXVIII MVP Christian McCaffrey. The AFC is looking to have a bounce back year with serious contenders are seemingly in almost every Division. In the AFC South The Colts with the arrival of Stephon Gilmore should be a heavy bet in Vegas. The Chiefs still have Pat Mahomes, and the Broncos allowed Coach ATK and the Patriots to get their QB with the arrival of Drew Lock. Super Bowl XXXIX is on the table, and the AFC will do anything and everything not to lose 3 straight! lets take a look at the conferences in the AFC .

AFC North:

Baltimore Ravens 14-2 Headcoach Tommanowns (Division Winner)

The Baltimore Ravens went 14-2 on the season, and represented the AFC in Super Bowl XXXVIII. However a 45-24 loss put a bitter taste on what should be considered a great season. They went into the Off-Season knowing that they have very little to change, so they stood pat. They also know this is a contract year for their dynamic quarterback Lamar Jackson who will command no less than 200 million over 7 years. With 24.3 million in cap space, and 13 free agents the Ravens will have to think long and hard about the construction of their team long term.

Notable Players:

  • Lamar Jackson
  • Marlon Humphrey
  • Marquise Brown
  • Marcus Peters
  • J.K. Dobbins
  • Justin Reid
  • Patrick Queen
  • Justin Tucker  (Best Kicker)

Cleveland Browns 8-8 Headcoach ChiefHawker3

The Browns are so close to putting it together that their fanbase can taste it. With a generational talent at Wide Receiver in ODell Beckham Jr. they have a playmaker that many in the league can't deal with. They found out last season however that teams can still gameplan around shutting down 1 playmaker, so they added another in Will Fuller V, and drafted the speedy Garrett Wilson out of Ohio State. It should be shooting fish in a barrel for their Quarterback Baker Mayfield who now in his 5th season will be expected to take this team to the promised land. Especially after seeing two of their division rivals play in Super Bowls. The pressure is on.

Notable Players:

  • Myles Garrett
  • Nick Chubb
  • Odell Beckham Jr
  • Austin Hooper
  • Denzel Ward
  • Baker Mayfield

Pittsburgh Steelers 7-9 Headcoach Hac_3443

The Pittsburgh Steelers hit the dreaded Super Bowl hangover going 7-9, and missing the playoffs all together after having been in the big game a year prior. However the Steelers retooled their Defense putting together what many believe is the best secondary of all time. Patrick Peterson, Josh Jackson, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Derwin James Jr all now lurk the Passing lanes. To steal a nickname from the Bears the No Fly Zone now resides in Pittsburgh. The Steelers also traded for Tyron Smith to help keep Dwayne Haskins upright who will be expected to command this offense at a much higher level than he did a year ago. Haskins could never develop a rhythm with JuJu Smith-Schuster, so he was moved giving Haskins a younger receiving corp.

Notable Players:

  • Minkah Fitzpatrick
  • Derwin James JR
  • Cameron Heyward
  • Tyron Smith
  • T.J. Watt
  • Dwayne Haskins

Cincinatti Bengals 5-11 Headcoach Bgreat238

The Cincinatti Bengals took a major step backward a year ago going 5-11, and missing the playoffs after having made it the year prior. The Bengals offense was clicking on all cylinders, however their defense became one of the worst in the league. They did what anyone would which is go and acquire talent, and talent is what they got. They added Tyrann Mathieu a former Defensive player of the Year to their secondary which should calm things down in the secondary. With Joe Burrow showing that he is the Quarterback of the future they drafted Emil Ekiyor Jr to play RT, with the thought of moving him to LT in a season or 2. With John Ross III, Ja'Marr Chase, and Deonte Harris the Bengals should be back in the post-season this year.

Notable Players:

  • Joe Mixon
  • Tyrann Mathieu
  • Evan Engram
  • Joe Burrow
  • Ja'Marr Chase
  • John Ross III

AFC West:

Kansas City Chiefs 13-3 Headcoach CapnClutchKC (Division Winner)

The Kansas City Chiefs were once again the Division winner in the AFC West a Defensive Coordinators worst nightmare. However they were unable to get over the hump for a second straight year, meaning that the season was an utter disappointment. The Chiefs are in the rare position of Super Bowl or bust, as they are not concerned with the regular season. Not to mention the Salary Cap Hell they are about to find themselves in this year is the one they must get it done. Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Juan Thornhill, and a myriad of others are all going to be looking for a big payday. When the Chiefs only have 1.17 million in cap room, it's going to get real dicey, real quick......

Notable Players:

  • Pat Mahomes
  • Tyreek Hill
  • Frank Clark
  • Eric Kendricks
  • Chris Jones
  • Mecole Hardman

Las Vegas Raiders 12-4 Headcoach e30zack (Wildcard)

Just Win Baby!!! a mantra coined by Raiders late, great owner Al Davis, and just win is what these Raiders did. After a tumultous season that saw them go 5-11 the Raiders bounced back like a trampoline dropping 12 wins on a unsuspecting league. They also seemingly won every offensive award as they had the BEST QB, BEST RB, BEST K, OPOY, and Best WR all on the same team! With firepower likt that the Raiders were one of the worst teams to scheme against. The Raiders didn't rest on their laurels however as they added Yannikc Ngakoue to help pressure the QB as they know they will be in Shootouts just solely based on their offensive system. They expect teams to play catch up all season long

Notable Players:

  • Derek Carr (Best Quarterback)
  • Rodney Hudson
  • Josh Jacobs (Best Running back)
  • Yannick Ngakoue
  • Richard Sherman
  • Darren Waller
  • Brett Maher (Best Kicker)
  • Henry Ruggs III (Offensive Player of the Year, Best WR)

Los Angeles Chargers 4-12 Headcoach stefmoney08

The Sophomore Slump not only hit their young Quarterback Justin Herbert, but their headcoach Stefmoney08. After going 8-8 a 4-12 season is not only unexpected, it was un warranted. The Chargers have vowed to get into their playbook, and start thinking about their plays instead of playing pray, and spray offense. Giving the Ball back to Austin Ekeler is a first step, instead of being enamored with the strong right arm of Herbert. However when you're in a division with Hill, Jeudy, and Ruggs I can't blame him.

Notable Players:

  • Keenan Allen
  • Justin Herbert
  • Desmond King II
  • Leighton Vander Esch
  • Austin Ekeler

Denver Broncos 2-14 Headcoach PhillySunoco

The Denver Broncos just like the Chargers saw their headcoach take a step back, with a much better team. going from 6-10, to 2-14 lets you know that whatever you're doing, it might be time to start doing the opposite. Much like the other members in the Division they have fell in love with the deep ball, and one receiver in particular. In the Broncos case it's Jerry Jeudy who although he is absolutely dominant on every level, he could be a reason they took a step back. When you have a talent like this you fall in love with throwing him the ball, but the Defense knows that as well. The offense has to make several plays, the Defense only 1. They shipped out Drew Lock, and picked up Jimmy G in the Off-Season. However the Qb isn't the problem in this instance, it's the scheme.

Notable Players:

  • Ali Marpet
  • Justin Simmons
  • Justin Simmons
  • Jimmy Garoppolo
  • Jerry Jeudy

AFC South:

Indianapolis Colts 12-3-1 Headcoach Gaberooni54 (Division Winner)

The Colts won the most competitive Division in the NFL hands down and were a play away from making the Super Bowl. They went into the Off-season knowing that they are so close they are looking through to the other side. They then dropped a stack on Stephon Gilmore giving him 40 Million over 1 season in a make or break Super Bowl run! That move should bolster a already dangerous defense that has Deforest Buckner, Darius Leonard, and Chris Harris JR. Dangerous to say the least. They will also hope that Rookie Quarterback Jamie Newman continues his development as he was a pleasant surprise for the Colts. Newman was arguably the best QB in a all time rookie class, that featured Justin Fields, and Trevor Lawrence hi praise to say the least.

Notable Players:

  • Quenton Nelson (Best Offensive Lineman)
  • Stephon Gilmore
  • DeForest Buckner
  • Darius Leonard
  • Chris Harris Jr
  • Jamie Newman
  • Michael Pittman Jr.

Jacksonvile Jaguars 10-6 Headcoach ThePacificCowboy (Wildcard)

The Jacksonville Jaguars came on strong to close the year out forcing their way into the playoffs for the 2nd straight year. They are now expected to take that next step to Super Bowl contender, and they just might have the make up to do it. Jacob Eason has taken the reigns from Gardner Minshew, and is expected to get the ball to D.J. Chark Jr with more regularity. They also traded for A.J. Rose whose break out rookie season in Atlanta was a surprise as he garnered Rooke of the year. Not to mention they were pulling all kinds of awards with Myles Jack, and Josh Allen getting BEst DB, and Best Lineman respectively. With the addition of Grady Jarrett Sacksonville is back better than ever!

Notable Players:

  • D.J. Chark Jr
  • Grady Jarrett
  • Myles Jack (Best Defensive Back)
  • Josh Allen (Best Defensive Lineman)
  • A.J. Rose (Offensive Rookie of the Year *Falcons*)
  • K'Lavon Chaisson

Tennessee Titans 9-6-1 Headcoach ChocoRainReubz (Wildcard)

The Tennessee Titans took a small step back after dominating the year prior with a 13-3 record. However winning 13 games in the NFASL consistently is not to be expected. They did make the Playoffs however, and still have Derrick Henry Bowling over would be defenders. The Titans unhappy with the way Ryan Tannehill played have moved on instead opting for Dam Darnold who was let go by the Jets. The Titans know that their division will be a slobber knocker so Darnolds arrival should help a group of talente, but under utilized receivers.

Notable Players:

  • Derrick Henry
  • Kevin Byard
  • Jadeveon Clowney
  • Sam Darnold
  • Adoree' Jackson

Houston Texans 6-10 Headcoach MM-Xfactor88

The Texans faltered down the stretch missing the playoffs for a second straight year. With Deshaun Watson as their QB the Texans are set on the offensive side of the ball. There main culprit has been their defense which is one of the worst in the league. The Texans were unable to get much help in the Off-season so they may still come up short as the season progresses. Word is Future Hall of Famer J.J. Watt wants out, and would be a huge asset for the Texans looking to acquire draft picks. However no mention Watt has been seen in the Trade block, which could end soon.

Notable Players:

  • J.J. Watt
  • DeShaun Watson
  • Mark Andrews
  • Brandin Cooks

AFC East:

New England Patriots 10-6 Headcoach SleepingKnapp (Division Winner)

The New England Patriots went from 16-0, to 10-6 but still managed to win the Division which is an accomplisment. However they are not a team to sit idly by as they traded for Drew Lock from the Denver Broncos, moving on from Cam Newton who is now throwing passes in Gotham City. Lock will have a slew of receivers to throw the Ball to as Courtland Sutton, and Calvin Ridley will be running routes in the Defenses secondary. If you put a nickel corner to slow down the passing attack they still have Sony Michel to turn around and hand the ball off. The story however for the Patriots was Dylan Moses who had arguably the best Defensive Season in history for a rookie, hell for any player. Moses won the Defensive player of the Year award as a rookie, and lead the league in interceptions.... Incredible!

Notable Players:

  • Dylan Moses (DPOY, DROY, Best LB)
  • Sony Michel  (Best Running Back)
  • Drew Lock
  • Courtland Sutton
  • Jonathan Jones
  • Calvin Ridley
  • Shaq Mason

Miami Dolphins 6-9-1 Headcoach I757IMonster

The Miami Dolphins Have their Quarterback of the Future in Tua Tagovaiola, now they're looking to make the Future Now. The Dolphins were in the running for the Division late, but wilted down the stretch. With one of the best offensive lines in the league, late season football should have been tailor-made for the team from Miami. However as teams loaded up to stop the Run the Dolphins quickly figured out that speed is what really keeps the engine running. They acquired Marquez Valdes-Scantling to go along with Curtis Samuel, and Preston Williams giving Tua all the talent he needs. Look for the Dolphins to take the next step this year, or expect some changes soon.

Notable Players:

  • Tua Tagovaiola
  • Curtis Samuel
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling
  • Byron Jones
  • Xavien Howard
  • Matt Breida

New York Jets 4-12 Headcoach Traylonakanana

The New York Jets saw improvement out of their team on the field, but the record didn't reflect it. out goes Sam Darnold, and in comes Cam Newton to bring that veteran leadership that this team desperately needs. Newton now in the twi-light of his career will be expected to mentor Spencer Rattler who was drafted by the Jets to be their Quarterback of the future. As of now he will get to sit and watch one of the all time great dual threat QBS. The Jets are not thinking to the future as they are playing to win now!

Notable Players:

  • Avery Williamson
  • Eddie Goldman
  • Roquan Smith
  • Kyle Fuller
  • Cam Newton
  • Quinnen Williams

Buffalo Bills 4-12 Headcoach OffensiveDom

The Buffalo Bills headcoach normally kicks it into over drive year 3, however it looks like this rendition of Madden will be his worst. Coach OffensiveDom is one of the most successful head coaches in the NFASL making 6 Super Bowl, and winning 1. With Strong armed Josh Allen at QB, Stefon Diggs running routes, and catching everything thrown his way, you'd think this team was made for super Bowls. The Bills have a ton of talent, but that only gets you so far. Playing smart, is the secret ingredient of which this coach knows full well.

Notable Players:

  • Josh Allen
  • Stefon Diggs
  • Tre'Davious White
  • Matthew Ioannidis
  • Micah Hyde
  • Ed Oliver
